The building blocks of sculpture

New Year New Designs

The Hamiltons are back in the studio and one of the first tasks of the year was to sculpt the famous Evian mountain peaks into a wall of ice for their latest campaign. Designs like this one are at first etched into the ice with a marking template before the big tools come in to finish the job. The mountains were then carved down into an intricate London skyline which very elegantly shows the versatility and almost unique transmogrifying property of ice as a sculpting material.

Glass Half Full

If you were lucky enough to be at the launch of 1 Kingsway in London last week you would have had the privilege of seeing the creations of international glass sculptor, Joseph Harrington. These abstract figures were formed from plaster casts of the Hamiltons’ ice which thankfully set before the melting process began.

Frozen Planet

Did you manage to catch The One Show last week? If you did, you may have seen the Hamiltons’ sculptures accompanying the wonderful Sir David Attenborough in order to promote his latest show, the stunning Frozen Planet. It was a great privilege to meet David, and here you can see Duncan explaining the art of ice sculpture to him as he admires the polar bear atop an ice table.
