Nick represents the UK in Finland

We’re extremely proud that our very own Nick Smith was recently selected to represent the UK at the Cave Ice Carving World Championships 2017 in the Finnish village of Leppävirtam, about 330km away from Helsinki.

Along with his partner, Darren, Nick competed against 11 other pairs from different countries in a huge cave, 15m below ground level at temperatures of -5 degrees.

Togetherness was the theme for this year’s competition as it goes hand in hand with Finland’s centenary independence celebrations.

Nick and Darren decided to sculpt a four-meter high brown bear, which just happens to be Finland’s native animal.

The brief also specified that the carving should have an element that children can use.  So, naturally, there’s a slide involved too. Well done, Nick!
