Rodin’s The Thinker in ice

The Heatherley School of Fine Art holds an annual Staff Show Private View at the Bankside Gallery. This year, the event was opened by their new president, Nicola Hicks and the team were asked to create a vodka ice luge sculpture of Rodin’s The Thinker as the main attraction.

Rodin’s bronze masterpiece is often used to represent philosophy, so it seemed like an interesting juxtaposition to use the statue as a vessel for something that is more associated with escapism.

At the end of the evening, a small gathering of partygoers paraded what remained of Le Penseur down to the banks of the river and chucked him in with ritualistic verve. There’s certainly something poetic about returning him to the place from whence he came.
