The Roux Scholarship

Last week, the team were honoured to be part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Roux Scholarship. The competition seeks to find an exceptional, young culinary talent who is nurtured by the Roux family’s expertise and is given an initial opportunity to work a three month stint in almost any Michelin starred restaurant in the world.

Taking place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge, the party’s requirements were for 30 2m x 1m individually carved chef hats to be set up in the drinks area while the scholarship presentation was taking place in another room. There would be one hat for each year and the Hamiltons had to work extremely quickly in order to get everything ready before the guests returned.

The ice was carefully hidden behind a screen in preparation for this elaborate task and while the team were secretly lurking in dark corners, Michel Roux Jnr. was covertly attempting to spy, much to Jamie’s amusement. Thankfully the event was a great success with the sculptures coming as a welcome surprise to (almost) everyone.
